The Senior Software Engineer has ownership of complex, mission-critical features from concept to production. This position helps to define how we build, not just what we build. This role acts as a force multiplier for the team by writing high-leverage code, mentoring junior engineers, and championing best practices in scalability, security, and AI-assisted development. This role can transition into a manager position in addition to other growth opportunities.

JOB TITLE: Senior Software Engineer
REPORTS TO: Engineering Manager
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the design and implementation of complex full-stack features (Laravel/PHP, Vue.js/Svelte, MySQL) with minimal supervision.
- Design scalable, resilient back-end services and databases to support current Forge proprietary projects, ensuring they meet strict performance and security standards according to SOC 2.
- Proactively identify technical debt and lead refactoring initiatives to modernize legacy systems into service-oriented architectures that support Forge's long-term scalability.
- Build systems ensuring logs, metrics, and error handling provide clear evidence of system health (no silent failures).
- Conduct thorough code reviews and provide technical guidance to Software Engineers and Juniors, fostering a culture of excellence and growth.
- Leverage AI tools to accelerate development velocity, generate architectural scaffolding, and enhance code quality, treating AI as a collaborative technical partner.
- Partner directly with Product and Design to translate business goals into technical specifications that prioritize user value.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High-School required, Bachelor's preferred in Computer Science or a related discipline
- 5+ years of professional software development experience.
- Expert proficiency in modern PHP (Laravel) and JavaScript/TypeScript (Vue.js, Svelte, or React).
- Strong database design skills (MySQL/PostgreSQL) and experience with complex queries and optimization.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS) and containerization (Docker) is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to break down ambiguous problems into concrete technical plans.
- Experience acting as a technical lead on specific features or small projects.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer without restrictions
- Must be able to read, write, speak and effectively communicate using proficient English
